A Thanksgiving cartoon: Dump DOMA
November 22, 2012
By Jacob Combs
Happy Thanksgiving! On this holiday, we thought we’d bring you something a little different: a great graphic worked up by Anthony Ash, Courage Campaign’s National Field Organizer. Courage has always been committed of the fight to repeal DOMA, and our new Dump DOMA campaign represents a wish to make the law a thing of the past–whether that’s through the courts or the legislature.
On this Thanksgiving, I am thankful for the incredible advancements our cause has made this year and, of course, for the wonderful community that makes up this site. Have a great holiday!

LoL this is cool. I have to say…especially on a day like today, I'm SO thankful about how galvanized we as an LGBT community have become. 2008 was such a discouraging year for us, yet instead of breaking down, we started to rise up…and mobilize..and UNITE….and today, it seems a majority of LGBT members are actively involved in SOME bracket of LGBT rights. Be it marriage equality, DOMA, ENDA, bullied LGBT youth, suicide prevention for LGBT, LGBT homelessness, homophobia, combating homophobia in different cultures. SO many LGBT are rolling up their sleeves and involving themselves in the plight of our community, and advancing our concerns to create progress. It's beautiful!
Keep it up. Every single one of you. And work together.

On another matter…you have to laugh, NOM posted an article which celebrates the people's right to choose through their vote. I reminded them that, on November 6, the people in four states listened to the campaigns, weighed the truth and made their choice. Of course, NOM thinks they made the wrong choice but the rallying cry is to let the people continue to vote (in other words, no Supreme Court necessary), so I say, fine, let the people vote if you will. Either way, people or courts, you are on a major losing track. Either way, one or the other will shut you down.

WTF? This makes no sense at all.

But the tyranny of the majority should not be able to vote on the civil rights of a minority. We dont allow that to happen for other minority groups. Their rights are mandated. To single out gays and lesbians rights be exploited by the majority based on popular vote is morally and fundementally flawed.

I hope this is taken for what it is and we don't get characterized by frame # 9
Although if the orwellian "D"O"M"A were understood for what it is, then I guess it would be OK.

You are right of course jeremiahjones. I simply wish to highlight the hypocrisy of NOM which seeks to win the day in whatever fashion suits their goal. If courts rule in their defense, they cheer. If votes rule in their defense they cheer. But when one or the other doesn't cozy up to their POV, they howl, "Unfair!". Ultimately, I, too, look to the courts to cement our rights but, I must say, I don't mind when the voters get on our side, too…and I think this wil happen more frequently.

This isn't accurate – dumping DOMA won't enable more couples ("everyone else") to get married, but it will enable couples who are already married to have their marriages recognized by the federal government.

I didn't get it, either, as it was not at all 'humorous' to me.
Just as the title for an old TV show was 'Different strokes', this just goes to prove that some people like a different 'brand' of homur than others.
Even pre-dating that old TV show, there was an expression of 'different strokes for different folks', probably derived from the 'marches to a different drummer' even older expression.
