Marriage Equality Leads by 20 Points in New Maine Poll:
A new WBUR Maine poll by the MassInc polling group shows a nearly 20 point lead in favor of a ballot measure that would legalize same-sex marriage there
    55% in favor
    36% oppose
    9% dont know/ refused http://www.towleroad.com/2012/06/marriage-equalit

Wonderful numbers. Would be a great year indeed if they actually reflected what the voters do in November. Would be a first, to say the least.

    Scottie-
It's actually Australia marriage that's being considered, even though it is being reported in a NZ newspaper.

The headline "Legalising of gay marriage doomed unless Abbott allows conscious vote" makes me wonder if they are planning an unconscious vote! ;-) The article correctly says "conscience" but the headline writer erred.

Although positive news, I'd take it for what it really is, just another optimistic poll. Keep up the good fight and never underestimate NOM or their affiliates. Too often in the past has an actual vote made minced meat of what polls have otherwise suggested. It's going to get nasty as November draws nearer.

Perhaps we should make sure no one hits them over the head before the vote! :)

Another article stating pm against…but will allow a conscious vote
    http://www.smh.com.au/opinion/political-news/same

The Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, will vote against gay marriage but has allowed Labor MPs a conscience vote. Number crunchers estimate about 36 of the 70 Labor MPs will vote for same-sex marriage while 10 to 15 are undecided and the rest will vote against.

As I think will be noticed from anyone checking the link, the vote is about Australian equall marriage, not NZ. The report is in a NZ newspaper

But these polls provide more to be optimistic about than others. It seems that in most past votes the undecided break entirely against equality, and those in favour usually lose a few points, but if that stays true here that would still provide for a win!
BUT things are going to get more intense towards the election so we will need to stay alert and stop the lies from influencing voters!

Wow. Baucus? Did not see that one coming.

  • 13. Stefan  |  June 18, 2012 at 3:55 pm

I know right?! He's one of the most conservative Democrats in the Senate so that really says something!

That father's day op-ed in the New York Times by Jeff's dad was beautiful. It was extremely touching, brought tears to my eyes.

Yep, and that makes it an exciting (and unexpected to me) development.

Scottie, I think you're great, but you really should start reading and, when needed, reacting to the comments on your posts.

Let's hope he signs on as a co-sponsor of the Respect For Marriage Act.

Thanks Fiona. In that excellent and accurate article by Scott Rose he alerts us to the new website for the FAKE research that falsely claims that gays make bad parents.

Box Turtle broke this story and has a lot of good articles on it. Just use their search feature for "Regnerus"

I'll feel more comfortable when those numbers are more like 65% for marriage equality.
