Adoption now official: NOM the proud parent of one over-the-top Facebook wall

September 28, 2010

NOM Exposed Right-wing

This is also the same Louis Marinelli who wrote on his blog “A piece of paper gives you access to a series of benefits afforded to married couples but it doesn’t make you married.” Because your marriage isn’t a marriage unless Louis says it is. -Adam

Cross-posted at Good As You

By Jeremy Hooper

For months now we’ve been telling you how the National Organization For Marriage has been slowly incorporating Louis “gays want pedophilia, polygamy, and prostitution” Marinelli‘s online initiatives into their strategy. Now they have made it even more official, declaring that Louis’ often incendiary “Protect Man One Woman” Facebook page is now NOM’s organizational home:

[NOM's official Facebook wall]

So it’s now one billion percent official, folks: The incredibly eye-opening, “ex-gay”-backing “Protect Marriage: One Man, One Woman” Facebook page that was created by newfound NOM strategist (and bus driver) Louis Marinelli is NOM’s “new home on Facebook.” Just a reminder: This is the same Louis J. Marinelli who has used Paul Cameron’s research to say that “gays have shorter life spans,” who thinks that all gays are single even if they are married or in a committed relationship, who thinks that Peter LaBarbera and his fringe “Americans For Truth” group is merely “tell[ing] the truth about homosexuality,” who says that marriage equality is “a mockery and a hijacking of the civil rights movement,” who flat-out calls gays an abomination, who says that “Deviance” describes actions or behaviours that violate cultural norms – homosexuality is far from a cultural norm. Therefore, it is deviant,” who claims that “Homosexuality and gay marriage are wrong and harmful to society,” who thinks that “there shouldn’t be any recognition of homosexual relationships because that is saying that homosexuality is OK,” who says that “what they do is blantantly [sic] immoral. :) [smile his own], ” who has compared our unions to that which might exist between a sterile brother and sister, who resorts to blanket character assassination in saying that one should “#nevertrust activists of the homosexual agenda – they are deceitful people who care only about themselves and not what’s best for society,” and who has made an egregious video declaring that modern LGBT rights activists want the “3 P’s: Prostitution, pedophilia, and polygamy“:

    Hey everyone!
Just a quick note…I took a peek at the Joe. My. God. blog and he's got a story regarding the Jelly Belly NOM fail tour stop. Apparently they were not aware of it and do not support it. Anyone have any other info on this great development?

    Love as always,

Can someone tell me the limits of ht legality for this site please?
    http://www.christianjobwire.com/index.php?id=5

Here is the story about it from OneNewsNow:

Christian employers and job seekers can now find each other on a new website.

ChristianJobWire.com is headed by Tim Krauss, who describes it as "a website for Christian job seekers and employers to connect together."

"We're bringing together businesses, Christian-valued ministries, universities [and] non-profit organizations into one location to make it easier for job seekers to find the Christian job that they're looking for," he explains.

Employment openings are posted on the site free of charge nationwide. "Right now we've got over a thousand jobs across the country, and many of those are management positions, sales positions and regular positions in Christian-valued businesses and organizations," Krauss adds.

He says the site has seen a great response thus far, especially among people who want to align themselves with operations that have comparable Christian values. People can register at the website, post a resume, and look over availabilities, while employers can search a database of resumes.

It seems to me that this is a lawsuit waiting to happen. I almost want to apply for a job so they can discriminate against me!

  • 8. Ķĭŗîļĺę&  |  September 28, 2010 at 8:00 am

Wow, I posted one response on their page and was immediately removed (hi, Louise).
    I'll repost it here :P

Josh Plourd: Cuz in the the bible its adam and eve and not adam and steve….God loves ya'll and I don't really think GOD is for gay marriage at all..

ME: You, Josh, of course didn't think how those Adam and Eve began the race of people? Remember, they had two sons… and that's it… no daughters, and no other people existed. So, if they only had two sons, then how come we all exist? Maybe t…hose sons had kids from each other? Oh, wait, one of them killed the other one (I bet you'll say because the killed one was hitting on his brother, i.e. was gay!). See, it takes a minute to think about it to realize how stupid the "Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve" argument really is! Pathetic!
    NOM must die!

I agree, the last phrase was a little bit too much, but still…

That seems highly questionable, to say the least. Employment discrimination based on religion should be a slam-dunk, but proving it would take legwork, I think, such has having one applicant apply through the XtianJobWire and an applicant with the same or better credentials applying separately, and doing this enough times to establish the pattern of discrimination. If they are all small employers, which seems likely, it could be hard to actually prosecute, I think, unless they make the mistake of asking people their religion during an interview.

  • 10. Ronnie  |  September 28, 2010 at 8:10 am

That page has been filling with the death threats towards LGBT people, advocating to make being Gay illegal, the disgusting comparisons, degrading, demeaning, insulting, & offending LGBT people & demanding that we care about what they want & their anti-gay feeling & sensitivities while completely saying that what we want doesn't matter at all. & Lastly that they are the only ones deserving anything from the government & if we want anything we have to change or nothing at all…They talk about things that have nothing to do with marriage such as DADT, ENDA, SNDA, etc. They remove all pro-equality comments but they don't ban you…they keep you on their like list to inflate & lie about their fake numbers……5 of my pro-equality friends are on their like list but all of their comments got deleted & they have all been banned from posting on the wall but not banned from the page.

Someone posted an article about the young boy, Asher Brown, who killed himself recently in Texas because of anti-gay bullying right above an article from Focus on the Family called "Coming to a school near you: The Homosexual Agenda" about protecting children blah blah blah…The article about the young boy in Texas was removed by the admin….yeah they want to protect the children alright…the heterosexual anty-gay children only that is…..

That page is nothing but a Fascist breeding ground for anti-gay terrorists who maybe either posting or lurking….so disgustingly sad….. > ( …Ronnie

I've wondered about this with regard to housing. Why can landlords refuse to rent to gays, but I (who owns a rental) cannot refuse to rent to straights?

  • 18. Alan E.  |  September 28, 2010 at 8:24 am

They removed me. Maybe it was the sign in my profile picture that says "Gays Love Boies."

  • 31. Ann S.  |  September 28, 2010 at 9:04 am

Kate, neither is legal in California.

the practice of discrimination because of race, color, religion, sex, marital status, national origin, ancestry, familial status, disability, or sexual orientation in housing accommodations is declared to be against public policy.

    California Government Code Section 12920.

And on the issue of the XtianJobWire:

It shall be an unlawful employment practice, unless based upon a bona fide occupational qualification, or, except where based upon applicable security regulations established by the United States or the State of California:
    (a) For an employer, because of the race, religious creed, color, national origin, ancestry, physical disability, mental disability, medical condition, marital status, sex, age, or sexual orientation of any person, to refuse to hire or employ the person or to refuse to select the person for a training program leading to employment, or to bar or to discharge the person from employment or from a training program leading to employment, or to discriminate against the person in compensation or in terms, conditions, or privileges of employment.

    California Government Code Section 12940.

The problem, as with so many things, is proving it. If the employer or landlord says, "I think so-and-so is a better fit", it's hard to prove they meant "because of their sexual orientation" or "because of their religion" or "because of their race".

A friend used to help out with investigations like this by posing as a prospective renter and applying for different places to live. It takes money and a number of applications to show a pattern of discrimination.

When my brother and his husband got married, they hosted a lovely reception for us all at a restaurant near City Hall. They mentioned that they has asked another place to give an estimate for the same thing and it had come in quite high. They understood this to mean, "no, we don't approve of your marriage and don't want to host this", and of course they never ate there again.

But without sending in a number of other couples to request bids for similar events and comparing them, it is impossible to prove anything.

Texas pre-teen takes life after anti-gay bullying
    by Hannah Clay Wareham
    Associate Editor
    Tuesday Sep 28, 2010

"Thirteen-year-old Asher Brown of Cypress, TX, shot and killed himself on Thursday, Sept. 23. The eighth-grader’s parents say that the boy was "bullied to death."

"Brown’s mother and stepfather Amy and David Truong told The Houston Chronicle that their son experienced constant harassment because of his slight stature, his religion, and the fact that he didn’t wear brand-name clothes and shoes. The group of bullies also accused Brown of being gay, and simulated sex acts with him during gym class."

His innocent life is NOM's, Focus on the Family's, Family Restriction Council's etc etc etc…..hands……they should be held accountable for fueling anti-gay bulling & harassment……> ( ….Ronnie

It's really hard isn't it Aaron….I absolutely understand what you're saying. I try to be a good Christian in my works and deeds….and I know it's wrong to 'hate' but when it comes to NOM it's SO hard not to. I pray to have the hate removed from my heart but I think God is expecting me to do that myself :-)
I do pray for them….I pray they see the error of their ways, and that their hearts and minds are opened and filled with love.
    I'm still waiting and praying

If NOM is incorporating Louis J. Marinelli's site as their own, it indicates to me NOM is slowly winding down their activities and unable to maintain their own site. Thus, they turn over to volunteers like Louis to continue carrying the ball. Let the site be way over the top. It will turn off more moderate and thoughtful people. I think NOM is dying a slow death because society in general is coming to terms with the gay community and starting to accept them. At some point, everyone can forget about such fanatics.

  • 41. Bob  |  September 28, 2010 at 9:24 am

Thanks guys for focusng our attention on another death of a Rainbow Child,

Wonder if it would be possible to make a full page story about this so far successfull extinction of our youth.

The message from the religious reicht is workiing by planting the idea in the minds of people and keeping themselves at arms length. These deaths seem to be occurring more frequently and we need to focus some attention directly on that subject.

In honor of keeping personal religious beliefs out of the courts, we have this remembrance from freethoughtday.org/history:

Over 300 years ago, on October 12, 1692, Governor William Phipps of the Colony of Massachusetts made a decision that brought to an end the horrendous Salem Witch trials.

A Christian, nevertheless he declared that spectral evidence (supernaturalism) would no longer be admissible in court, and so the trials, due to lack of appropriate evidence, came to an end. The governor’s decision was a distinct departure from the general community’s extant thinking and a giant step on the path toward the principle of legal neutrality that would, when the United States incorporated into its brand new Constitution a Bill of Rights, assure each U.S. citizen the freedom to follow his/her conscience regarding matters of ultimate belief.

In our increasingly pluralistic nation of today, the Freethought Day Celebration of Reason and Church/State Separation serves as a reminder that our courts and public institutions should be places of fairness and justice for everyone.

    LLB, funny!

Here's what I found on another history site:

"The educated elite of the colony began efforts to end the witch-hunting hysteria."

Interesting use of the word 'elite'. I believe our trial witnesses were recently referred to as 'elite' by the H8ers.

After it was halted, many priests, jurors and others admitted their wrongful frenzy. The main instigator, though, refused to apologize and later became governor.

I'm finding this mainly at http://www.law.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/ftrials/

The first living organisms were single-cell. The first of these organisms was called Adam. When Eve was created from Adam's rib, that was the very first organism performing the very first cell division. Now, single-cell organisms reproduce asexually, so they don't have such a thing as sex or gender. Therefore the names Adam and Eve were arbitrarily assigned. So it doesn't matter if you call them Adam and Eve, or Adam and Steve, or Madam and Eve!

  • 58. Elizabeth Oakes  |  September 28, 2010 at 1:18 pm

Yes, because I would be sad if the people who made Bertie Bott's Beans were anti-equality. Mixed messages, dontcha know.

  • 59. Elizabeth Oakes  |  September 28, 2010 at 1:29 pm

I think that religious non-profits and orgs are exempted however–by case law if not statute. A church, religious school, "ministry" (which I assume is a religious non-profit) can usually discriminate by requiring that employees sign an agreement to engage in "Christian conduct" or be fired. I understand from a lawyer acquaintance who used to specialize in such cases that it's very difficult to nail a religious org for violating employment law, since the court is pretty much enjoined from questioning religious practices by the Constitution, so even if they egregiously violate a worker's rights they can usually walk. Essentially: if you choose to work for a religious org don't expect to be protected by the EEOC.

Private businesses are another matter, however. They might be more vulnerable…but pursuing it will give them more ammo for that whole "we'll be forced to accommodate gay marriages" argument, won't it? Hmmm.

Kate, I don't know the vintage of the sexual orientation provision being added. Within the last 5 years, maybe? Just a guess.

Elizabeth, there are a number of exceptions. I think you're right about the religious organizations. For housing, there might be an exception for a 4 unit (or smaller) building if the owner lives there. I'm not certain right now, and since I have now taken my codeine cough suppressant I must turn in.

Yea they had a Shepherd's Guide, a sort of phone book for Christian businesses, at my church. The funny thing was more people used it to know which businesses NOT to contract with than otherwise. It seems that the businesses that advertised their faith heavily were the ones with the worst customer service, highest prices, etc.

The Christians that practiced what they preached in terms of business rarely advertised. At most, they would have that fish symbol on a business card.

@Ronnie: Well he was 18, and 'outed' against his will. I found a picture of him (seems like Advocate has a story on him now too).

    Tyler Clementi.

I added him to the list: http://thepriceofhate.blogspot.com/

Ann s- Salem didn't burn witches. They hung 14 men and women, and crushed one man. That case is interesting because it is a textbook case of mass hysteria – but caused by what? Leading theories include bad bread, over active imaginations coupled with fear and repression, a trick that got out of hand, etc.

Rhie, that's interesting. They burned a number in Edinburgh (went on a most enlightening witch tour there) and in other places.

    Ann S –

Oh yea burnings did happen other places. That's why a lot of people think they happened in Salem too. I would be interested to hear more about Edinburgh.

Rhie, you are taxing my memory, I went on that tour in 1989, back when staying up for a tour that began at midnight seemed a reasonable thing to do.

I do remember our guide, a bright young man who seemed to have studied a lot of history. He was in a dracula cape with bright red lining and had painted his face white. He had business cards with his name, "Adam Lyell, deceased", and the date that he had been hanged on the Haymarket for stealing horses. One got the idea that an actual person by that name had been so hanged.

I can't believe I remember his name after all these years.

He had a lot of interesting information about the numbers of witches burned, and why. There is a fountain in Edinburgh near where the tour begins dedicated to the memory of the poor women (and men) so condemned.

There was also a lot of information about the plague years, body-snatching, chamber pots, supposed ghosts, and so on. He had an accomplice who would pop out at appropriate moments in disguise to make all the teen girls shriek.

It was all highly entertaining and very informative at the same time. I hear they do a similar tour in London and no doubt there are others, also.

Ann S – Thank you so much for that info. I will go poke around online and see what I can find :)

Y'all do remember that this is where the perjorative term "faggots" came from, right? That they used gay men as fuel/faggots for these executions?
